a power lunch to rip off people and get the ceo's million dollar parachutes. naw i never went here but i've seen it from the outside glass pressing my face against the window. longingly salivating at the fare.too expensive for me, such is life in the big city.
Aqua is one of the very well-established Bay Area fine dining spots that are scattered around the financial district in San Francisco. The epitome of the power lunch/expense account destination, Aqua features a great variety of seafood dishes executed with French influences, ingredients, and preparations.

Aqua really pioneered the crap outta the prix fixe menu here in SF back in 2001. And no one better to do it than Michael Mina. But alas, in 2002 he left to start his own gig with Andre Agassi, that's right. That badass tennis player we all love. Who is making Aqua swim these days? Laurent Manrique, he used to work back in Paris at this awesome place we used to go to Taillevent. And man he can whip up some grub! This guy is so good he's even making his own vino!

It's rare to encounter anyone in this city, resident or visitor, who hasn't heard of Aqua. Hearing the restaurant's name, most nod their heads with enthusiasm, Aqua having made - and kept - a name for itself under chefs George Morrone, Michael Mina and, most recently, Laurent Manrique. Tucked away in the Financial District, Aqua is almost incognito, the only hints of its presence the valet sign out front and a dim glow that spills onto the sidewalk as people come and go. Encountering it is like noticing an underwater creature who blends into its environment so well that you don't sense it until it shifts.

For my birthday my girlfriend decided that she would treat me to a dinner at Aqua, frequently declared to be one of SF's top 5 restaurants, and often rated as one of the more expensive ones. Well, cheap it ain't, but damn good it certainly is.
