To my surprise I wasn't impressed with this restaurant. I thought the food was infused strangely. I was very reluctant to try their desserts so we passed on it.

The very idea of eating at Campton Place again had been playing on my mind ever since my food writer friend, Catherine Nash, awarded Portnoy, a man who she claims can "engage my intellect and make me shiver with giddy pleasure" with San Francisco's Best Pastry Chef honour for Northside last November.

The prix-fixe program titled "Dine About Town" is finally here in San Francisco for the month of January! If you are from San Francisco or the Bay Area, or if you were a reader of mine back in 2006, you might know about the Dine About Town program. The premise of Dine About Town is that San Francisco's famed restaurants steeply discount their regularly lofty prices to entice locals to come and patronize their lagging businesses during the slow tourist season. This year, the beau and I took advantage of the program, to celebrate how my blog has been featured as one of Blogger's Blogs of Note!

Campton Place or "Where are my chocolates?!" and "I'm not Chinese!")
It’s my birthday weekend! This means I get to eat a lot of expensive food and review it for you, my dear readers. Mom suggested she take the train up to San Francisco, we go out to lunch, and then spend the rest of the afternoon trying on $400 sweaters at Neiman Marcus.

Campton Place restaurant and its executive chef, Daniel Humm, have each achieved some truly remarkable feats over the past several years. The restaurant started the year 2000 holding an unimpressive 2.5-star rating from The San Francisco Chronicle, and the chef at the time seemed to be struggling with a formula to get things back on course. As the years went on, however, Campton Place did precisely that – earning steadily increasing accolades with each new review, and marching up The Chronicle's ratings scale in 0.5-star increments. The culmination of this occurred just last month, when The Chronicle identified Campton Place as one of the Bay Area's seven 4-star restaurants.

"I made reservations for us at Campton Place for my birthday," I told Jon. "Which one is that?" he asked. "You know, the one with the good bathrooms."

There are so many dinners I’ve had in the last few months -a disappointing meal at L’Arpège, a great one at Pierre Gagnaire, and many many others- which, for different reasons, I simply haven’t got around to writing about yet. As I’ve said before, if I blogged about everything I did in real time, I would have no life at all, which would –in turn- make for a very boring blog for you to read.
