Here’s the larger, Excelsior-style outlet of the famed Mission slabbery. As is the case at El Farolito's other pair of locations, yellow seating booths - seemingly held over from the bygone, sorely missed Pioneer Chicken era - are the seating of choice. Breakfast available. Open real late.

This is one of the legendary burrito spots in San Francisco, a hole in the wall frequented by drunks, maniacs, hard-working men, thugs, and the inevitable fixed-gear-parking hipsters. It's open until extraordinarily late, and the lines out the doors after the bars close on Saturdays are long enough to make Russians who grew up in the '80s blanch with fear. What's with the hype? Why all the crowds? Can this place possibly live up to the hype?

Able to accommodate more patrons - and prone to fewer noisy customer outbursts - than their better-known shop a half-mile to the west, this El Farolito location now features a bright yellow awning over its front entrance to match all the bright yellow tables inside. Breakfast available. Open real late.

We prefer this El Farolito location over other Mission cred hotspots (Pancho Villa, Can-cún, La Taqueria, etc. etc.), but don’t take that as an unequivocal endorsement. The narrow aisle here can make taking/keeping your place in line more tense than it really needs to be, and things can get colorful when all the neighborhood gangstas roll through to get their late-night slab on. But it’s entertaining to watch the cooks fiddle with the griddle in the big front window, and you’re a buffoon if you don’t try their cantaloupe agua fresca. Breakfast available. Open real late.

A couple of coworkers and myself were at some nerd event in San Francisco. We decided to hit 2 pizza places after the presentation but as fate would have it, both restaurants didnt open until 5pm...damm you Paulines Pizza and Little Star!! Maybe next time? We were in the Mission District might as well hit them up for burritos. El Farolito has been on my list for ages. My friend Jarrod used to swear by this place until he started going to Taqueria Cancun up the street.

Did you ever see that SNL sketch with Cheri Oteri and Will Ferrell as the Spartan Cheerleaders? Well, the title of this post is from that sketch and I felt it fitting as my evening meal last night came from none other than the magical El Farolito.
