The last time I was in ~FARALLON~, it was for a big vendor lunch, back in my advertising days. Three hours, icy conical towers laden with fruits de mer, magnums of Veuve, yeah, it was a good time. Blurry. Ahhh, the nineties. Farallon has installed a new oyster bar in the front of the restaurant, and I have to say, it was fun to return to the "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Goes Glam" theatrical vibe of the place. $37 entrées are one thing (and not necessarily my thing), but sitting at the bar, you will find dishes that are more in the $15 range, so your bill won't make you totally seasick. So, I know it's hard to believe, but there are many fine restaurants in San Francisco that we have never patronised, and Farallon was one of them... til now.
Eric's mom was in town last week, so for her birthday, we went to Farallon for a spectabulous dinner with mom and Ms. and Mr. Art Attack at Pat Kuleto's undersea fantasy-land. Seriously, this place is like an amusement parks for adults.

We decided to try a place we'd never been before, Farallon. It was a very strange experience, mostly because of the decor, which was described by Giao as "Disneyesque". It was totally overdone with an ocean theme--light fixtures shaped like jellyfish, railings cast like seaweed. The service was good though, and they had an interesting was of knowing which kind of water we each were drinking: different cup shapes. They passed the water test with flying colors.

We were given the option of eating in the bar as no tables were available. It was about 8pm. I decided to order a now out of fashion cocktail – caiprinha and was rewarded by sending it back twice to eventually get a mojito made with coconut rum. Note to bartender – you should remove the purple parts of the stem on the mint.
