This is one of my favorite restaurants. I love the feel of the dining room. Its light colored walls and minimal artwork along with the fabric-covered ceilings gives it a softness and simplicity that’s inviting and easy to be in. The dining room tables are made of thin wood with a red top that had a satin-finished, Formica-like material. They had a lightweight feel to them, very much like some of the Scandinavian furniture design. The blond Eames-style chairs had contours and were surprisingly comfortable. The lighting was soft with amber wall sconces giving a burnished hue. The dining room has an understated eclectic elegance to it.

Almost exactly a year ago and with the same two girlfriends, I visited Firefly, which I had heard so many good things about. On that occasion, I wasn't impressed. This is what I wrote about that experience at the time: My tuna tartare was bland, flavourless and lacked any kind of punch from the 5 spices that were allegedly part of its preparation process. The choices of main courses were unappealing and didn't taste any better than they sounded. Dessert lacked any finesse, the waitress didn't smile once and the wooden tables are completely styleless. This restaurant wasn't bad but no where worthy of its accolades.

Firefly has been on our list for a while - it's also on the SF top 100 of 2004. There's a mention of it in San Francisco magazine for best neighborhood dining. It was time to give it a try and we wanted to take full advantage so we went on a Thursday night because they have prix fixe for $29 - you get appetizer, entree, dessert, and coffee or tea for $29!! I really good deal.
