Looking over the $11 cocktail list at Frisson , I realized the restaurant has broken another price barrier. More and more area lounges are shaking and stirring the Two-Digit Cocktail.

I don't really belong amongst the super-trendy. I don't have the right sort of looks or sensibility to get all gussied up and lounge picturesquely at XYZ or Bambuddha Lounge. In fact if you can get me out of my jeans and into a matching top and skirt, consider it a miracle.
Either that, or I'm dining at the French Laundry.
So after one look at the website for Frisson, which self-describes as

Frisson is actually both a bar and restaurant, and they do them both right. But right now, we're talkin' about liquids. This place has been packed every time we've been in, except for early happy hour (5-ish), but it fills up fast after that, and keeps on keeping on. You better have your best Cool going on. Great energy in this new place, good tunes, sophisticated and hip decor and crowd.

I really enjoyed the service at Frisson they were accommodating but nothing beats Gary Danko's service. I enjoyed the decor of this restaurant and we were able to sit in the private room. Menu prices were high at this restaurant. Cocktails were $10.00 and above. I did enjoy their version of the mojito.

Here is Frisson, a relatively new place also near my new home in SF. The chef is Daniel Patterson, formerly of the now defunct Elisabeth Daniel. The place has probably some of the most jaw-dropping decor you'll see in a while: orange ambient light, a dome-like ceiling, and some very wacky furniture. It's actually pretty interesting to see in person, but you can get an idea at their website (warning, there's music too which you can turn off). The bar area looks pretty cool too. Apparently they feature DJs, but there wasn't one there when I went with my dad. Anyway, here's the food.

After spending most of the day at a picnic, it wasn't until about 10pm I got a little tiny bit hungry again. Fred was snoozing so I woke him up and declared I wanted to go out. He was game. Finding food this late in SF isn't a breeze, but it offered me the perfect excuse to suggest we try Frisson. Ever since Fred had taught me the French phrase, tu me donnes des frissons, I'd felt the need to check it out. I'd heard great reports about the drinks and decor with mixed views about the food, although the general consensus was that plates are really small. This was perfect for me, I just wanted a taster of something to take away the mild grumbling in my stomach, in a fun party atmosphere with a fabulous cocktail.

San Francisco has been a dining destination for years, but to those familiar with the New York restaurant scene, there is something categorically different about the nature of dining experiences in New York, especially those that attempt to push the boundaries of style and attitude along with their culinary aspirations. In a nutshell, New York just has many more "cool" restaurants than San Francisco in my opinion.
