We are still looking for a new favorite dim sum place near the financial district and today we decided to try the oldest dim sum place (or so they claim) in SF. It has been around since 1920, but I don't know if that makes it the oldest. In any case, there were not carts at this joint--you had to order everything, but the place was small and there weren't that many customers, so it was ok. The food was better than expected but the decor was strangely garish with neon orange, green and yellow walls and red chairs. It sort of looked like a pre-school on acid. The meal came to about $11 per person.

Sitting in my living room, enjoying a cup of Dragonwell Summer (a green tea), it's hard to imagine that it was just a few hours ago that we were sniffing the massive metal jars of tea at the Red Blossom Tea Company in San Francisco's Chinatown. We walked away with only the Dragonwell, but had our eye on some green ginger and white teas as well.

I was reading the history of San Francisco and Hang Ah Tea Room popped as the oldest chinese restaurant in the city. Opened in 1920 and still going strong. The location of the restaurant in an alley facing a playground. The outside of the building is a bit run down but dont let those looks scare you away. The entrance will lead you to a sparkling clean chinese restaurant with vibrant lime green and orange painted walls.
