J. and I have passed Jack Falstaff restaurant on numerous occasions after leaving nearby Jeremy’s Department Store in San Francisco (a favorite of ours for obvious bargain shopping reasons). But I’ve never felt compelled to eat there because from the outside, the space looks so large and cavernous, which can be too industrial and intimidating. [...] FULL REVIEW

We had heard that Jack Falstaff had a patio, one of the few places in SOMA that offers that amenity. It was a beautiful afternoon and we wanted to have a few drinks and perhaps a couple of appetizers in the sun. When we got there we realized it was really a covered patio, and that we weren't going to be basking in the sun, so we decided that we'd just have dinner. It turned out to be a pretty good meal. Not as good as Plumpjack, which is under the same group, but still good enough to recommend if you are in the area. Pickled Watermelon and Cantelope in Tomato Water (gratuit) This was fresh, and delicious and really embodied summer. ... FULL REVIEW

Jack Falstaff opened in San Francisco in late 2004 and I’ve heard surprisingly little about it. That it took over the space that Two B spent much more time designing than actually using, that it was the latest addition to the Plumpjack family and would carry on the tradition of a wine list priced at retail, that the Chef had some good credentials… those I knew. What is surprising is that I hadn’t heard anything about how good the food actually is! FULL REVIEW
