An instant hit with the CCSF kids upon its January 2007 opening, La Parrilla’s Ingleside shop is another aggressive expansion move by the fast-growing local chain. The exposed drainpipe next to the front door is an unusual design touch, and hey look, here comes a basket of warm chips. Again with the fancy video screens. Breakfast available. Credit cards accepted.

Although not a taqueria in the strictest sense of the term, La Parrilla certainly feels enough like one. It probably has something to do with the counter service and the half-dozen burrito options (and three types of rice) on the menu. Are we the only ones who miss former tenant El Pollo Supremo’s mascot? It ruled the roost in the way it imagined what Jose Canseco would look like if reincarnated as farm poultry. Breakfast available. Credit cards accepted. Fancy video screens all over the place.

From the outside, La Parrilla looks like it's going to be a disaster. Bright colors, a cheesy slogan ("get your thrill off the grill") and the absence of the word "taqueria" all bode ill for this relatively-recent outpost of the Mission-based restaurant. It's hard to tell what their angle is - they seem like they're trying to be a less-boring version of Boston Market, serving quarter and half grilled chickens, chicken sandwiches, and salads. Tucked away in the lower right side of their menu are the burritos, complete with a slightly arrogant tag line.

Debuting in spring 2005 as a slightly upmarket venture by the El Pollo Supremo folks who brought us the creatine-enhanced chicken on that restaurant chain’s logo, this “Latino Bistro” features a menu largely built around their vaunted moneymaker, chicken. If you don’t watch out, they’ll serve you a halved slab. At least they openly boast of “generous portions” on their menu; their burritowork supports this claim. Open late on Sunday, and real late on Friday and Saturday. Breakfast and delivery available.
