We were at the Ferry Building for the Farmer's Market and we were getting hungry, so we grabbed a nice lunch outdoors at Mijita, Tracy Desjardins, Mexican place. Carnitas Taco $4 We get the taco and dump the meat into the soup below to fortify it. Meatball Soup $7 This hearty soup is even better once we dump the carnitas, jalapenos and pickled veggies into it. Unlike other items on the menu, the portion size makes the price a good deal. Quesodilla $5 This looks more like a calzone than what one generally thinks of as a quesodilla. It's ok, but it's a bit too bready for us. Eggs with Chorizo $8 This dish was actually a huge...

It was such a nice day, we decided to forget our bagged lunch and head to the Ferry building for some al fresco dining at Mijita. As usual, it did not disappoint. Meatball Soup $7 This was basically a tasty tortilla soup, but with meatballs. A very large bowl for the price. Crispy Chicken Tacos $7 These most closely resembled taquitos and were slathered with sour cream and avocado sauce and sprinkled with queso fresca. They were a daily special. Carnitas Taco $4 Small, but packed with flavor. The tender meat is matched with fresh cilantro and onion and pickled carrots and jalepenos. Queso Fundido $5 This was a bit oilier than...

We ate at Mijita today, a Mexican place in the Ferry Building. Since last time we were there they seem to have made some changes that made the service faster and smoother. And, the food, while pricy, was still just as tasty.

Damn that Aunt Beep for getting in her second installment of the Great Guac Hunt before I could! But I guess I can't be too bitter. She did start this, after all.

Chef Traci Des Jardins 'regular food' joint, Mijita serves up a bit too expensive Mexican dishes. But the ingredients are fresh, organic and local, so we like to blame the price on that.

Mr. Food Musings and I went to Mijita for lunch today. Lately we have been making the pilgrimmage down there every week or so, purely for the purpose of eating the best carnitas tacos on the planet Earth. We discovered it a few months ago, just dropped in for a bite since we were down there anyway. It was a cold wintry day, the kind people who've never been to San Francisco don't believe exists, and the poor vendors (their produce, too, for that matter) stood huddled against the wind as best they could in their flimsy tents, faces red, stomping their feet to stay warm. We made the rounds of a few stands and then ditched shopping in favor of a warm bite inside. Mr. FM, lover of Mexican food that he is (it's his desert island food) made a beeline for the place. (It's owned by Traci des Jardins of Jardiniere and Acme Chophouse fame, FYI; her Mexican grandmother used to call her mijita when she was a little tot.)
