At this pizzeria, Craig Stoll takes the same artisan approach that wows the dining masses next door at Delfina. He's found a way to produce a pizza in a gas deck oven that's as good as those from...

As many of you may have already heard, Craig and Anne Stoll are opening a second location of ~PIZZERIA DELFINA~, this time in the Fillmore District. I couldn’t release the location info last week, but here it is: the pizzeria is moving into the Zao Noodle Bar space on California at Fillmore, and is slated to open in May. It will have 44 seats, twice the size of the current space, but will pretty much have the same format of the original, i.e. it’s a pizzeria, not a restaurant serving pizza. They will be putting in a wood-burning oven and are discussing an antipasto case, and beer on tap. Zao will close when escrow is all finished up, in...

Near my home in Oakland, I have easy access to the Neapolitan-style pizza that seems to be the only kind of pizzas served here these days. It’s a simple 10-minute walk east to Dopo or west to Pizzaiolo. But recently when I was in San Francisco, I visited one of the early Neapolitan pizzaiolos in town—Pizzeria Delfina in the neighborhood between the Mission and Castro districts. Opened in 2005, Pizzeria...

Work sucks.
Not because I don’t enjoy what I do. (I actually love it.) And not because I’m lazy. (I’m only moderately lazy.)
Work sucks because it keeps me from writing reviews in a timely manner.
Case in point: I had dinner at Pizzeria Delfina last Tuesday night. Here it is Sunday, and I’m just now getting around [...]

Pizzeria Delfina, as its name suggests, is the pizzeria located next door to the extremely popular Mission District Cal-Italian restaurant, Delfina. The main restaurant Delfina has garnered a wide range of praise over the years, and one day (when we can manage to get a reservation!), we hope to review it here. For this post, [...]

Waitress served fresh seasoning at our table. We had Margherita (tomato, basil) pizza - The crust was crispy and chewy but it had no taste except for the 3 leaves of basil on the pizza. We also had Salsiccia (sausage, onions, bell peppers.) I thought the pizza was salty but the sausage had great seasoning. Real thin slices that was impossible to fold the pizza to eat with your hands because it was just sloggy. You definitely need to eat their slices with a fork and knife. I enjoy gourmet pizza if it's not a NYC slice but I'd definitely recommend Little Star Pizza over this place. I think their 12" slice will definitely serve 3 people - 2 slices for each person.

Chubby and I decided to check out Pizzeria Delfina for our Sunday lunch. All the outdoor tables were vacant (due to the chilly weather) and we waited a few minutes for one of the six indoor tables or a couple of stools at the bar to free up. This gave us time to deliberate on our order.

Lately, I have become quite the pizza fan. Used to be whenever Mr. Food Musings suggested ordering in or going out, all he'd get in reply was a groan (and, if I thought I could get away with it, a roll of the eyes). But then A16 came to town and life changed.

Restaurant Review: Pizzeria Delfina, San Francisco
What is it with pizza anyway? Short of sushi and steaks, I don't know any other foodstuff that inspires so much fervor of specificity among people who love to eat. And I'm not talking about pies from your local delivery service, however good they may be. What really sends people into paroxysms and polemics of culinary criticism are proper thin-crust pizzas that are increasingly finding their way onto menus of all types, from the casual bistro to the chic upper-end restaurants all over the city. Everyone has their own opinion of where the best pizza can be found, and what characteristics make for the ideal pizza (leaving aside for a moment the fundamental divide that exists between the thin crusters and deep-dishers). The next time pizza comes up in conversation with people who like to eat, just watch for the superlatives that get rolled out like so much dough.

I waited very patiently through the gestation period, but you bet your ass that as soon as Pizzeria Delfina opened her glorious doors, I was there.

I have a new favorite pizzeria. That's right, I couldn't contain myself long enough to not make a beeline to the very first night of service for Pizzeria Delfina (they actually opened for lunch only on Sunday, but who's counting). Some might think that's just asking for trouble, but with a pedigree like Delfina, how could you go wrong?
