Damn, he's good. Gary Danko, I mean. It's one of the top restaurants in San Francisco-- consistently rated at the top, a Michelin star (not two??) and rated by Zagat as highly as Thomas Keller's temple of food, The French Laundry. The atmosphere is always referred to as classy, but not stuffy, and the food divine. Will it be all that it's cracked up to be? I dialed my little fingers off to get FULL REVIEW

Dinner at Gary Danko

For Alexis' birthday, Giao took her to Gary Danko, a place he'd been, but she hadn't. It was very, very good, although not particularly innovative. The atmostphere was intimate and there was some surprisingly good art. The service was almost too nice and familiar at first, but we learned to like it. They passed the water test in an interesting way: they labeled the the water with the seat it was for, although they should have labeled it prior to bringing it to the table. The 5 course menu (you can choose any 5 courses) is $92 per person. FULL REVIEW

What was I thinking? I went to a fine dining establishment and ate at the bar. I should have either made a proper rezzie or gone somewhere else. I don’t blame the restaurant. They accommodate customers who choose to order food at what should be a bar. Sadly, this does a disservice to both the food and the diner. FULL REVIEW

Restaurant Gary Danko is quickly becoming San Francisco's top choice for celebrating special occasions. And so it was that I ate there twice last month--once for a birthday and once for an anniversary. The service is amazingly good and the attention to detail ensures that your meal will feel special. The environment is elegant but relaxed with contemporary art and dazzling floral arrangments throughout the dining rooms. On the downside the tables are so close together that when a glass broke at the table behind us, the glass landed right on me, and my chair...! FULL REVIEW

A beautiful location with black tinted windows an a monogrammed doorway at the intersection of Hyde and North Point, GD is everything a top quality restaurant can and should be. From the moment the door is opened for you, to the 3 people who greeted us as we walked in and took our coats, to the gorgeous interior decor (complete with 2 red backlit Buddha sculptures), to the flawless and extremely well informed service, this was a picture perfect meal from start to glorious finish.
