Dining at the Slow Club the other night, I was impressed with how well this 17-year-old restaurant has held up in both food and design. So often when a restaurant is trendy, it loses its edge...

When I say I like fish rare, I'm thinking closer to "sashimi" than to "not totally cooked through." This often takes care in explaining, though.

After walking out of Inland Empire an hour before it ended, but a good 2 hours into the movie, we were hungry for a real dinner. On the suggestion of a friend, we went to Slow Club, a place that we'd never been. We decided to give it a shot. At about 10pm on a Thursday night we wait to wait about 20 minutes to be seated. Not bad, considering they have a nice bar at the back. The menu had very few items and the only thing that stood out as interesting to us was the steak we both ordered. The atmostphere is nice, and the food was decent, but they need more choice on the menu.

Fennel and potato soup ($3.50) at Slow Club was just the thing to take the San Francisco chill off today. This thick rooty fluid was the anise-swer to my craving. Not only was it delish, it thawed out my fingers so I could enjoy my ‘za.

We managed to beat the lunch rush at the Slow Club today which made them live down their name with the prompt delivery of my seared Ahi ($13.90). It came perfectly cooked with charred racing stripes from the grill. Fresh tasting and delicious, this ruby colored hunk of fish came atop a pile of couscous strewn with red onions, tomatoes and cukes. I would order this dish again.

After the chef shuffle, I was wondering what today’s visit to the Slow Club would produce. The menu still has the famous burger and looks similar to what they had going before. I ordered the flatbread ($9.50) which was grilled with bacon tomatoes and mozzarella. A chiffonade of spinach was scattered over the top to create a craveworthy, pizza-esque, Pavlovian-drool-bucket experience. I liked it.

Sorry for the lapse in posts. I'm lazy. Actually, work has just picked up so I haven't had as much time to post, but I'm going to make up for it now.

Date night at Slow Club! We haven't been out for dinner in a while and Sante (Slow Club's wonderful chef) told us that Thursdays are often the best nights to come in since he goes to the market Thursday morning in Marin so everything is fresh, fresh, fresh!!!

There's nothing better than kicking back on a Friday night with amazing food and drink at Slow Club. After a long week at work (ok, it was only 4 days this week), Sante knows how to do it up right!

Girls night out with D and P. The Slow Club is just about equidistant between our 3 homes in SoMa, Bernal Heights and China Basin. This Industrial-styled bar/eaterie (which has nothing to do with 'clubbing' in case you were wondering) doesn't accept reservations so Monday is a convenient time to visit and acquire a table immediately.
