Tadich Grill has been around since the dinosaurs. It’s old school San Francisco and the food takes a backseat to the vibe. They don’t take reservations so even if you get there early, plan on a wait for a table. There’s a long bar area where you can hover and vulture up a bar seat (past the brass rail, the seats in front are for drinkers.)

We ate lunch at Tadich Grill today, one of the oldest restaurants in San Francisco. It is pretty close to our new office, but it was still packed even at 1:15.

Everyone has heard of the Mark Twain quip about "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco," so perhaps it is appropriate a place once named The Cold Day Restaurant is now as much a part of the city as the fog.

Tadich Grill has been in the business for over 150 years. They are considered the oldest restaurant in California dating back to the gold mining days. Im not sure what part of the restaurant is original but it definitely has a rustic feel to it. (See Pics# 2-4). We arrived for a late dinner and surprised to see groups of people waiting for a rare private booth and 50+ people eating at the counter. They dont accept reservations and is first come first serve basis. We lucked out with a 2 seater next to a booth. Although the pictures dont show Tadich Grill being busy, the restaurant was completely PACKED and noise level was higher than average. Probably not a good idea to bring the kids for a late dinner, Id recommend going for an early lunch or securing a private booth.
