My friend Julie is a walking, talking lucky charm. Like pink hearts, orange stars, yellow moons, green clovers and blue diamonds lucky. Every time we dine together, we have a good meal. Blue Plate is one of the best-kept secrets in San Francisco. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. Quietly tucked away in Outer Mission, one might miss it for the only signage it has over its narrow doorway is a NEON blue sigh stating “EAT.” From the moment I walked through the door, my mouth is watering. All of the food is prepared in a show kitchen located immediately inside of the door. Surrounded by a diner-style bar, there were people eating on stools while watching the magical cooks at work. I am lucky that two of my closest friends P and Kevin, who I have known for over 10 years, and who I worked with London in the nineties, both moved to California not long after I did. Unfortunately, our industry has uptimes and downtimes and our jobs are never very secure which can be nerve-wracking as we are all on visas which expire in just two weeks if we become unemployed. (Yes, we have just two weeks to leave the country if the worst happens!) Kevin was recently a victim of job losses at his company and we were worried that he might have to return to England. Luckily, he quickly secured a job in LA. We reunited for a last dinner together at The Blue Plate in San Francisco just before he journeyed South to start on his next adventure. FULL REVIEW

Jonathan and his friend Jen were visiting from Hawaii and we needed to find a restaurant for dinner. When we asked Jen and Jonathan if they had any mainland cravings Jen said MASHED POTATOES!!! So the hunt began.... OK, it wasn't so hard to find a restaurant serving mashed potatoes (but we also wanted to stay pretty local). FULL REVIEW
