We hadn't really eaten all day and on a whim decided to see if we could get reservations someplace nice, where we could get dressed up. We ended up getting on the waiting list at the Ritz Carlton and someone luckily cancelled. Althought it wasn't quite as good as last time, it was still excellent. We ordered the nine course tasting menu and most of the dishes were different than last time. We were very tempted to order the Salt and Pepper tasting menu, which featured a different salt and pepper in each dish. We correctly assumed that some of these dishes would be included in the nine course tasting menu.

For my birthday my boyfriend took me to the Dining Room, regarded by many as the top dining destination in San Francisco. We had sampled the cuisine of the chef, Ron Siegel when he was working at Masa a few years prior and had loved the experience.

Chef Ron Siegel has always been one of my favorite chefs, ever since I first eaten at Masa's, so I was eagerly awaiting eating at the Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton. As usual I put myself into his capable hands and ordered the nine course Chef's Tasting Menu for $115. Since there were two of us, with the extra cheese plate, and four intermezzo's it came out to 22 amazing looking and tasting dishes. It's hard to come up with superlative after superlative, but let's give it a try.

Restaurant Review: The Dining Room at The Ritz-Carlton
My first visit to The Dining Room at The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco was many years ago, so long that I no longer remember the precise date. What I do recall, however, is how quickly the restaurant earned a spot on my list of favorite places. The chef at the time, Sylvain Portay, offered very good French-inspired cuisine, with a lobster salad in particular that remains one of my all-time favorites. Equally notable, however, were the attentive service and the beautiful decor – dark wood furniture, lush burgundy fabrics, rich draperies, and crisp white tablecloths. Thus, for a top-tier dining experience in the city, The Dining Room was always reliable.

Yeah, OK, so shoot me... it was all of a sudden Persian New Year, and I lost track of time, blah-blah-blah... my apologies for the way tardy post.
