A friend of ours' company moved to the city and he now works sort of near us. Giao met him for lunch at a central location which happens to be one of the best lunch spots around. Delicious food and the best prices around. Imperial Rolls $4.50 Crispy, fried goodness. Crab-Asparagus Soup $7 This enormous bowl of soup is the best version of any Vietnamese place in SF. It's a tad gelatinous without being off-putting and the flavor is great. We also like that they use white asparagus instead of green, as it is less bitter. BBQ Pork $5 This is Alexis' favorite dish at Tu Lan. Tender, slightly charred pork this a sweet-salty-sour dipping sauce. Crab Asparagus Soup $7 Crab and white asparagus with egg and scallions in a slightly thick broth. We never go to Tu Lan without ordering this. Fried Fish This dish used to be a whole fried fish, but now it's a breaded, fried filet of fish and it's just not as good.

We had a movie at 10:30 late movie, so we went to our favorite cheap Vietnamese place, Tu Lan, for a bite beforehand. The whole meal cost $18, total. BBQ Pork Alexis' favorite and today it was even more juicy than usual.

Alexis had a hankering for some good, cheap Vietnamese and if there's place that fits that bill, it's Tu Lan. Fried Fish with Ginger Sauce $7.50 This was a little different this time, seemingly breaded in pure cornstarch. Strange. BBQ Pork $4.50 A little tough today, but still tasty. Crab Asparagus Soup $6.50 A HUGE bowl of delicious soup for a very reasonable price. The crab and the white asparagus are great flavors together. Previous Post

I finally got to the famous Vietnamese restaurant around one of the worst neighborhoods in SF. The area is definitely spooky well I know I stick out so people will stare. I'm not sure why but whatever. A friend told me just walk around the BS otherwise, the people won't bother you.

We took Alexis' parents to Tu Lan, our favorite Vietnamese place in the city. It helps that it is also dirt cheap. The following meal, which left 4 people totally stuffed (and was delicious) cost a total of $35, including tax and tip.
