Not quite sure what all the fuss was about this place. The service was slow, the clams were oversalted, and the pasta was undercooked. But I might go back because it's open until midnight on Tuesday through Saturday, and it might be a better alternative than fast food (on some nights). Plus, they made a great burger and fries. The burger featured focaccia bread, great beef (they did medium rare just right), and gruyere cheese. It was surprisingly good, especially considering the other letdowns of the night. But at $17.75, it seemed a bit pricey for people like me who just love to order a double-double and a milkshake at In-N-Out. The...

Don't go to Zuni. Do go to Zuni. It's overrated. It's underrated. It's passed its prime. It's a perennial. It's a legend. You have to eat there. Welcome to the Zuni Cafe, the subject of much debate in the San...

Zuni Cafe is consider one of the big heavyweights on the restaurant circuit and I've been wanting to visit for years. Reservations are recommended although they accept walk-ins if you're willing to endure 1-2 hour wait. Their bar is stocked with plenty of top shelf liquors and I hear their oysters are wonderful, so waiting might not be a bad idea. Parking is hellish as I circled around the 1 way streets for 25 mins. I finally took up residence in a parking spot with a missing meter. Zuni offers valet parking but don't have the heart to park my 4k beater.

Excuse me, Mr. Michelin-Man? This post is for you. I want to make you salivate in jealously, as I feature Zuni, a restaurant that was unjustly and woefully omitted from your Michelin Guide listing.

Yes, this chicken is famous and I'm not exactly breaking new ground here. In fact, I think Zuni isn't quite what it once was - perhaps they're spending too much time writing cookbooks these days. But this roast chicken is still excellent.

By far this dish was simply amazing. It tasted like a very light egg omelette. Go figure that one out folks. You have to eat it with the 3 combinations added to this dish. It was very delicious!!

Zuni Café is a San Francisco institution; in other words, people will think I am a hack for not loving it (how dare she?!). I’ve been to the restaurant two times, once for their signature dishes, and another only for the oysters. The space is beautiful, the service is great, but the food really does not measure up to all the hype.

Ever since they opened, the Zuni Café has been a reliable place to grab a bite. Whether it’s a platter of raw oysters, a margarita or a full dinner, there’s always good food to be had.

As I was hopping out the door of a local eatery, I ran into Stephanie who is trying her best to stick to the nearby chow, but finds it ain’t easy. We determined that eating at a local restaurant counts. Zuni’s normally stellar roasted chicken with bread salad, currants and pine nuts fell short tonight.

Zuni is classic! Been around forever in restaurant years. Since 1979. These guys have been a very happening spot in a very happening area. Who doesn't like Zuni? Fools, that's who. Judy Rodgers, awarded James Beard Outsanding Chef Award owns this place. And an outstanding chef she is!

Visiting a city like San Francisco, it's hard not to become overwhelmed when choosing a spot to dine. There was a time when I'd just walk down the street and pop into the first place that looked inviting (that's how I found one of my favorite DC haunts, Bistro du Coin, which introduced me to mussels). Now, older, perhaps wiser, and with an increased awareness of resources out there that can help you find good eats hidden from the tourist eye, I rarely eat out when travelling without first checking Chowhound, the local food critic, a few blogs, and other best of lists. Often, this helps me. Yet sometimes, due to the sheer amount of info out there, I become paralyzed, particularly when there are conflicting opinions from multiple trustworthy sources. That's when I take a deep braeth, remind myself that it's only a meal, and just decide already. On the trip to SF, when we finally threw up our hands and just picked--we ended up at Zuni Cafe and Pesce, and all was right with the world.

Tuesday night was ME and my anniversary (no. 2) so we took each other to our favorite restaurant in San Francisco, Zuni Café. Zuni is not the French Laundry (nothing is like the French Laundry) but it’s the most consistent, high quality, low stress, always a good time restaurant in the city. The food is spectacular and you get a very large “bang for your buck!” Zuni always makes me feel happy. I can come here off the street and order at the bar tables, just a Margarita and shoestring potatoes. Boom. Instant happy.

Went for a nice lunch stop at Zuni Cafe with my dad. Zuni's become a somewhat regular stop for me again. We sat in the very corner of the restaurant, just to the left of the front entrance. It's usually pretty easy to walk in and get a table (for 2, at least) in that spot. Every time I go to Zuni I am amazed by the beautiful natural light that just fills up the whole restaurant. I think that Zuni is one of the few places out there in which a digital camera simply refuses to use flash - it's like being outside!

Two and a half years ago I visited Zuni for the first time, to meet my British friends Kevin and P for Sunday brunch. P didn't live in the USA back then. She had been flown out from the UK that weekend for an interview with a South Bay company and so, as two of her oldest friends who hadn't seen her in way too long, Kevin and I met up and spent the day with her.

Keith had an itch to go to Zuni Cafe while he was in town. I'd been as recently as this past summer, but I was happy to oblige on the condition that he'd split the roasted chicken with me - a dish that I hadn't had in a long time because I can't order it with my mom. Zuni Cafe is an SF establishment... it has its lovers and its haters, but I'm a firm supporter of the place. Judy Rodgers (of Chez Panisse lineage) consistently puts out simple, reliable food using great ingredients. The space is casual and booming with natural light. I'm not a big fan of their famous burger (it's on the fancy side for me), but I think their chicken is easily one of the best chicken preparations in the city.

Last Friday we met friends for dinner at Zuni Cafe, one of San Francisco's most well known, and well loved institutions, which has held a place on our top 5 restaurants in San Francisco since our first introduction. On that first visit, Zuni was like a new friend, exciting and full of surprises and at the same time familiar, an instant bond formed. Our visit on Friday was a date with that friend now part of our close community - perhaps with less surprises but familiar and comfortable, reliable and dependable.

My mom and I had a quick lunch at Zuni Cafe, one of San Francisco's staples. I hadn't been in a year or two. They're famous for their chicken (which is for two, so I can't get it with my vegetarian mom), and their burger. I've tried both in the past... The chicken is damn good, no doubt about it. The Zuni burger uses focaccia and errs on the fancier side. I don't like it as much as I like the ones at Mo's. So here's lunch at Zuni's, minus their two most famous items...

Jon and I bought our first home in April. It's just about the only residential structure in our neighborhood. Lucky for us, Zuni Cafe is also in our neighborhood. We can WALK there. Hooray!

A number of people noticed that I haven't written much about restaurants in my own city, San Francisco. There have even been some confusion about where I, in fact, live. I looked through my recent blogs and wondered a bit myself. I suppose I don't see eating in my own city as much of an event, I am hence far less inclined to make an effort of taking the photos and documenting the meals.

Wow, when I agreed to dine with Mr. and Ms. Melkor last night, I had no idea that I (or more specifically my hands) would be guest starring on his so-called food blog on eGullet. Dinner last night was most pleasant, both on account of the food and the company. I've always loved Zuni, and conversations with Mr. and, more so, Ms. Melkor have always been delightfully entertaining. And last night was just as it should be, fantastically simple and honest food in the company of good friends.

I had a lovely lunch today at Zuni—it reminded me how much I like lunching there. I was having one of those days when I simply couldn't really focus and get anything done so I just gave up and took the afternoon off. I ended up at Zuni and got a nice table by the window. It was a perfect San Francisco afternoon, Zuni's bar area where I sat was airy, drenched with light and just crowded enough to not feel lonely but sparse enough to still be able to pretend you're in your own space.
