Granted, San Francisco’s second Taco Del Mar shop is just as easy a target for cheapshot jokes as the first location over on 2nd St. – any Seattle-based corporate taqueria whose restaurants employ an ersatz surf motif and a bespectacled, Fu-Manchu’d, cartoon fish for a mascot is bound to be a strong candidate to wear the lampshade at the San Francisco slab party. Taco Del Mar’s burritos always seem to perform strongly when put to our mustachioed test, and that’s the bottom line. FULL REVIEW

Snoopy’s Joe Cool alter ego has been reinvented as a Fu Manchu’d, sombrero-wearing fish named Carlos, and now this mustachioed sturgeon is beckoning you to “release your inner Baja.” As suspect a proposition as that may sound, Taco Del Mar’s fine burritowork suggests it’s not such a bad deal. Just steel yourself for heavy lunch crowds, afternoon room temperatures that recall August days in Hades, and that one guy yammering on about his new condo across from the ballpark, all with the option of getting your super Alaskan cod burrito on. Closed weekend evenings. Credit cards accepted. FULL REVIEW
