It's ultimate frisbee season again, which means that I spend Tuesday nights in the Inner Sunset after games, tanking down burritos, usually from Gordo. A good friend told me that you can request your burrito grilled and they'll do it, avoiding that whole slushy-steamer problem. Last night, I went there all excited to get my super carnitas with a wonderful, flaky tortilla, and...the flat grill was being washed when I got there. Not a big problem for normal burrito customers, and nobody else cared, but...what if I'd wanted a quesadilla? Would they have made me wait? As it was, my burrito was ok, but oddly dissatisfying. I'll try again...

Certain taquerias swathe their burritowork in layers upon layers of foil, thereby forcing hungry customers to expend as much effort unraveling slab-outerwear as they should on the hurly-burly of biting and chewing. Not Gordo! One layer. Bonus community bulletin board-browsing available with every purchase.

This long-popular neighborhood slabspot - our 2006 Slab Scrum champion - is beloved by many not only for its often stellar burritowork, simple menu, and reasonable prices, but also its bulletin board that proudly features advertisements for academic lectures, meditation gurus, and even the occasional dog therapist. Popular with families!

After I had eaten here, my fellow burritophile Dan told me that Gordo had been "Going Off!" I was skeptical, and now I see that there are no other reviews of this joint yet. Perhaps some other Gordo is off tha heezy, but the only thing going off at the Gordo Sunset is my alarm for sub-par burritos.

Oh the memories I've had at Gordo Taqueria. I used to live in the Richmond district years ago and 2 Gordo locations were in walking distance. If I had to estimate how many visits, I'd guess 20 with most of them at the Geary location. Since we had a request for the Clement location, I made the 25 minute trek to my old stomping grounds. Seems like nothing has changed since my last visit, new faces but same old menu.

A burrito hideaway if there’s ever been one - some people call it Gordito's. There's seating available for you and three or four pals, and pretty much no one else.

According to Burritophile's scoring guidelines, I consider Gordo's burritos to be a perfect 7: "The kind of burrito that you expect if you live in San Francisco or Mountain View. If you live on the east coast, you're going to be really happy if you can get this with any consistency." They're not great, but they're certainly better than average and are always consistent. This goes for both the Geary and Clement Gordos.

According to Burritophile's scoring guidelines, I consider Gordo's burritos to be a perfect 7. If you would like to read a more fleshed-out description of the Gordo on Clement, look at my review for the Gordo on Geary. The burritos are pretty much the same.
