After a decade stoking the fires of other people's stoves, San Francisco professional cook Brett Emerson is striking out on his own. On his blog, he chronicles the all-consuming process of opening his new restaurant Olallie in San Francisco. In his few spare minutes, he sings the praises of what he calls the "sardines" of the culinary world -- tiny restaurants, small farmers, and less familiar ingredients -- through stories, photos, and recipes.

Behind the paper: final inspection
Contigo's final inspection was scheduled for this afternoon. After all the various inspectors — plumbing, electrical, health, etc. — sign the Job Card, the City Building Inspector comes through to pass judgment on the entire project. It's a big deal.
